This herringbone coutil is a looser weave than our traditional coutil. If you like our usual tight weave and rather stiff coutil - you won't like this, but it's an affordable option for corset making. Great for the new corset maker, as it's easier to work with and less costly. Be aware the loose weave means it will stretch a bit, so this is not for tight lacing. A double faced cotton herringbone, I do suggest washing to pre-shrink this fabric before using.

Width before washing is 157cm  (62inches). This could make great trousers, waist coats and long skirts, a bit heavy for petticoats in my opinion. 320gsm 155cm wide (60"). Made in China.

Check out all the colours!

  • White
  • Cream - very subtle yellow tone
  • Beige - I could say "sand" but sand comes in many shades
  • Cinnamon - pale cinnamon
  • Brown - medium brown
  • Emerald - bright green
  • Medium Blue - looks a bit purple in the photo, but it's not. Think Wedgewood.
  • Navy
  • Steel grey - dark battle ship (it's almost a greenish grey)
  • Black

So happy with this fabric. I'm new to corset/stay making so, I've never worked with coutil before. After making an initial mockup out of heavy linen, this fabric made the whole process so much easier and sewed up very nicely. I purchased both their regular coutil and this lighter woven one. Both are high quality and I will definitely be purchasing again, especially the lighter one.

An excellent find :)

Since I live in Florida, this is an excellent find for most of the year here! I should note that I do NOT tightlace, so my corsets are "pretty backbraces," so I cannot comment on the upper level of strength of this lighter fabric. As a support fabric for warm (hot) and humid climates, I am quite pleased.

Great for making stays

I've been using this lightweight coutil to line 18th-century inspired, boned stays, and it's great to work with. Very happy with the results, and there are a lot of colour choices!

It's so good to hear that you enjoy working with this lighter coutil. I was unsure about it, as I've used my much stiffer coutil for years. Thanks for letting me kow.

New colors! Feels strong enough. It is definitely thinner than the other coutil offered, however sometimes that's what you want. Swatches are about 2" x 3".
