Fabric, Lining, and Interfacing Yardages

The following notes and charts are from the Laughing Moon Mercantile pattern instruction sheet and are given in yards only, not metres.

Note 1: The many sizes, 3 lengths, and linings necessitated many layouts. The layouts are printed on tissue, and are printed in ascending order of size. Within the sizes, the fabric widths are shown in ascending order. Within the fabric widths, are the layouts for fabric and lining, with and without nap.

Note 2: Due to the many sizes, the layouts are grouped by size, for instance, - 2-10, 12-18, and so on. These skirt yardages given are for the largest size in the group. Therefore, those cutting smaller sizes within the group (a size 12, in the 12-18) may find the yardages generous.

Note 3: The yardages are for a skirt with a finished length at center front of 42". At center back the finished lengths are 42 1/2" for walking length, 48" for short train, and 54" for long train. If you need a longer or shorter skirt, you will have to add or subtract from the yardages as needed.

Note 4: If you wish to make up the skirt without the hem facings, use the "Lining" yardages. When looking at the lining layouts, add pattern pieces 6 for the waistband, 5 if you want a pocket, and 4 if you want a placket back closing (omit for a modern zipper). Note 3 applies also.
